Beck’s have supported contemporary art for the best part of 20 years – lending emerging artists such Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin and Jake & Dinos Chapman a helping hand at key points in their career. This year we have worked with the Royal College of Art to offer four promising artists the opportunity to exhibit their artwork on an unprecedented scale — having their artwork replace the Becks label on bottles nationwide in August. Once again, providing a foot-up for the next batch of Damien Hirsts. Charlotte Bracegirdle www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk Charlotte Bracegirdle, 34, is an alumni of the Masters degree in painting (2006). Originally from Broardhembury, Devon, Charlotte spent seven years applying to art schools across the UK before accepting a place at the RCA. Charlotte has previously been awarded the Davis Langdon award (2006) and was shortlisted for 2007′s New Contemporaries. Plans for Charlotte’s future are to continue painting and exhibiting her work, she is currently working towards an exhibition for the Madame Lillies Gallery, Stoke Newington, running from 10 September 2008. Bracegirdle dreams to be an artist in residence at the National Gallery, she loves all the history in there and dreams to spend all her days painting.

Riitta Ikonen www.riittaikonen.com Riitta Ikonen, 27, is studying a two year MA in Communication Art and Design at the Royal College of Arts, graduating in June 2008. Originally from Finland, Riitta believes the Beck’s Canvas project resonates with her own belief of taking art out of the gallery for people to see in a wider context. In her mind individualism is a little space inside your head reserved just for you, like a private restaurant table that serves you anything you think to want. Riitta takes inspiration from ‘the performance of images, through photography and costume design. Certain things, usually small and insignificant, excite me to the point that I have to wear them and then document that process.’ Key achievements for Ritta include featuring on the cover of a ‘mail art’ book published by Lawrence King Publishing and compiled by Flat 33 (RCA Alumni). La artista Tracey Emin escandaliza una vez más al arte británico,
Londres (R.Unido), 4 jun (EFE).- Resulta difícil hoy en día escandalizar en el mundo del arte, pero parece que Tracey Emin lo ha conseguido otra vez con la sala que ha “comisariado” para la Exposición de Verano de la Royal Academy of Arts (RAA) londinense, a juzgar por las declaraciones de algunos de sus académicos. Emin, conocida sobre todo por su cama con los restos de una noche de amor -bragas sucias, colillas y preservativos incluidos- y por una instalación en forma de tienda de campaña con los nombres de todos sus amantes, fue nombrada académica de la RAA el año pasado y recibió la invitación para seleccionar las obras de una de las salas de esa exposición, que se celebra anualmente desde 1769. Antes incluso de que la RAA abriera sus puertas, algunos académicos comentaron que el gran Turner, que exhibió en su día varias obras maestras en la Exposición de Verano, se habría ofendido y habría considerado lo expuesto por Emin como infantil y ofensivo. Allí había desde una escultura cinética de gran tamaño que representa a una cebra macho copulando con una mujer hasta el vídeo de una joven bailando desnuda junto al mar con un hula-hoop hecho de alambre de espino y desangrándose con el movimiento de caderas.
